Keeping The Focus On Your Photos | Horizontal & Vertical Stripes

I hope you all enjoyed the National Scrapbook Day weekend! I know I did!!! I spent part of the day on Saturday scrapbooking and actually finished 2 layouts...which is really good for me considering how slow I am! I will be sharing both of those layouts very soon, but in the meantime, I thought I would share a layout I made recently using the Fancy Pants True Friend collection. I totally love the colors in this collection (I really adore orange and yellow) and thought it was perfect for scrapping some photos of puppy Lincoln! When I look at him now and then look at his puppy pictures, it's hard to believe he was ever this tiny!!!

When I started this layout, I knew I really wanted to keep the focus on the sweet photo of puppy Lincoln. To do this I began by cutting varied widths of patterned paper to create a series of horizontal stripes with the main one containing my photo and embellishments. I also placed the journaling and title in a horizontal stripe as well.

To help keep the focus on my photo and to contrast the horizontal stripes, I created a vertical "stripe" with circle punches, white cardstock and a variety of buttons. I centered this vertical stripe in the middle of the photo of Lincoln. The intersection of these stripes creates an  "X"  that helps draw your eye to that sweet little puppy face!

What tricks do you use to keep the focus on your photos and make them the center of attention?
