Today, I'm sharing a new layout using a new 17turtles Cut File Y Yes No. 1, that just became available in the 17turtles Shop. I'm also sharing some fun options on how to use this cut file beside how I used it on this layout.
I created Y Yes No. 1 so that it could be used in multiple ways to create a fun design for the background of a scrapbook page. I love the idea of filling in shapes with different colors and patterns. It makes me feel like I'm using more of my stash of papers and in my book, that is always a good thing!

As you can see from the image of the cut file above, there are 2 different colors. With ALL 17turtles Cut Files, different colors indicate that there are separate layers. This file has 2 different layers! On the layout that I created, I opened the file in Silhouette and then moved the top layer off to the side so that it would not be cut.
I then cut the bottom layer darker from a piece of kraft cardstock and used the cut shapes on my layout. To help me position the shapes on my background paper, I used the large negative piece as a template.
For the next step, I switched the layers and placed the top layer onto the mat. I then selected the layer, right clicked and then ungrouped the shapes.
By ungrouping the shapes, I was then able to use the Fill Color option to play around and help me decide which pieces I wanted to cut from what color of patterned paper. Once I was happy with things, I deleted the rest of the shapes that I did not want to cut.
I then grouped each of the same colored shapes together and placed them in different corners of the mat. To help save paper, I cut pieces of paper that are just slightly larger than the grouped areas and place the paper onto the mat for cutting in that area. That way, I can cut all of the different colors at the same time.
Now, another fun option for this cut file is to use only the bottom layer and throw away the inside cut pieces (or save them for another project). You can then back the openings with different colors and patterns.
Another option would be to only use the top layer as a background. You could again, not the inside pieces or you could fill the openings. The cut file really has so many wonderful options!
The other cut file that I used on this layout is called Love Always and I used it to create my title.

I simply cut the words from white cardstock and then attached them to my layout.
