Halloween Scrapbook Page Ideas | Jillibean Soup

First things first, Happy Halloween!!! We decided to not have a big Halloween party like last year, because of Lincoln (our new puppy), but I can promise that I'll be having one next year! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and to celebrate it this year, I'm guest designing on the Jillibean Soup blog using the new Jillibean Soup Halloween collections...EEEKS!

After I created my projects for my guest post, I made a couple of "just for fun" scrapbook pages. The photos that I used are of Danny and myself getting ready for the Halloween costume party that we had last year. We each did our own makeup and I of course had to take some photos along the way to document our transformation.

I used a mix of their new mini Halloween collections (Owloween Stew and Witches Brew) to embellish both layouts. The background papers are from their new Soup Staples III collection.

A fun technique that I used on both pages was to color some of the wood veneer with a Krylon Silver Leafing Marker. It is a quick and easy way to add a subtle touch of shimmer to the page.

BoBunny Stickable Stencils

If you haven't tried the BoBunny Stickable Stencils yet, I highly recommend them! They are wonderful for creating one of a kind backgrounds for your scrapbook pages. They are also really easy to clean off and I have yet to have a problem with them losing their stickiness.

Recently, I shared a tutorial (BoBunny Ink, Pen and Stencil Tutorial) on the BoBunny blog on how I used the Stickable Stencils with their BoBunny Double Dot Ink Pads. After creating the background piece for the tutorial, I hated to throw it away, so I used it to create the Our Adventure scrapbook page that I am sharing with you today.

I used the same technique that I shared in the tutorial to add the numbers on top of the polka dots. It is a simple technique, but it is a fun way to add color and interest to your page. Feel free to check out the tutorial and the other scrapbook page that I made!

Fall Blessings & Digital Cut Files | Carolyn Wolff 17turtles Guest Designer

Hey Everyone! Carolyn Wolff here and I am very excited to share a new design that I created using some awesome new digital cut files created by Juliana Michaels!! I have done some designing for her in the past and was very honoured that she asked me to contribute again. I also have another date booked in January!!!!

I chose to play with the Thankful Pumpkins set which is available in the 17turtles Etsy Shop!!

I love the words and the different shaped pumpkins. I couldn't wait to get working on my layout!!! I went back a few years in my pile of photos and came across these photos of my niece, Payton, and thought they would be perfect with the pumpkin files.

The pumpkins are created in layers, so I had lots of fun using different colours of orange cardstock and sanding and inking the edges to give them some really nice texture. It was really easy to embellish with a button and some twine......and then I added some leaves that I cut out from the paper I was using.

I love the words that come with the set as much as I love the pumpkin shapes. They made a great title for my layout and were really easy to mix with the chipboard letters that I found in my stash.

I mixed in some burlap, buttons, stamps and some stitching to finish off my page.

I am very thankful to Juliana for allowing me to 'play' with her files.  It was great fun and now I have a great page to add to my album.

*****

Thanks so much Carolyn! I love the creative use of this cut file and how you added the extra texture by inking and distressing the cardstock pumpkins. I also can't wait to have you back in January!

Carolyn regularly shares some awesome paper crafting and scrapbook projects on her blog. Here is a fun winter project she created using one of my free cut files - Let It Snow.

17turtles Guest Designer | Lynn Shokoples

Good Morning Everyone! It's Lynn Shokoples here today from Scrappy Happy Mom and I am so excited to be a guest today for Juliana and her amazing 17turtles digital cut files.

Smile For The Camera scrapbook page by Lynn Shokoples guest designing for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

My daughter, her husband and their puppy Jackson love taking selfies, just as much as I love scrapbooking them! I just couldn't resist playing with the Smile For The Camera cut file and mixing it with the Puppy Love file. It was hard enough to pick the digital cut files, I wanted to play with them all!!! This was such a fun layout to do, I chose several of the files and got to work!

Smile For The Camera scrapbook page by Lynn Shokoples guest designing for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I took the frame with the dog paws on it and altered it slightly. I used the frame for my photo and I fussy cut the paw print out and used it on the side of my layout.

Smile For The Camera scrapbook page by Lynn Shokoples guest designing for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I chose several sheets of cardstock to cut out the files. I first cut the title Puppy Love in light green, then thought "hmm a little to light", so I cut them out of blue. So I used the negative space which was the letters L O V E and popped them into the blue title. It's so much fun to cut the files and then tuck them here and there!

And again, I cut the cameras out of light green first, then changed to blue. Well, we can't let those green ones go to waste so I decided to make little borders at the top and bottom of the layout and tuck the green ones in there. Remember it's never a mistake, it's a chance to get creative! I was happy, it gave me more cut files to play with!! A big thank you to Juliana for letting me visit today!!

I am so thankful to have had the sweet and talented Lynn Shokoples guesting for me today! She has also created a Thank You card using my digital cut files as well!

Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving Traditions Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels for Elle's Studio

What are your Thanksgiving traditions? This scrapbook page captures one that I started with my nieces when they were little. It is to take silly face photos while eating pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day. One of mine is to always have one piece of both the pumpkin and the pecan pie that my Mom makes.  They are homemade, even the crust! Her pies are seriously the best pies ever!!!

To create my layout, I used Elle's Studios new Sycamore Lane collection and die cuts from the exclusive October Kit

17turtles Guest Designer | Bernii Miller

Welcome 17turtles fans! Today, the super talented Bernii Miller is here as a guest and she has one amazing layout to share with you using some of my new 17turtles Digital Cut Files.  I was thrilled when my fellow BoBunny Design Team Member agreed to guest for me and I was blown away by what she created. I'm pretty sure that it will inspire you too!

GUEST DESIGNER | BERNII MILLER

Hello there! It is Bernii Miller here with you from Weekend at Bernii's. I am so excited to be here today with you sharing the fantastic new cut files that Juliana has been creating over in her brand new 17turtles Etsy Shop. I was so excited when I was asked to create with her new files as I have been eyeing the gorgeous Lace Flowers Background and Lace Flowers cut files. Flowers for me have always been a love and I love it when I can either sneak them onto a layout or really make the flowers centre stage. And well for this layout - this cut file was just begging to be centre stage.

Best Friend Scrapbook Page by Bernii Miller Guest Designer for 17turtles using Lace Flowers Digital Cut File

I started out with the Lace Flowers Background and actually cut out two of them, as I only have a Silhouette Portrait (which only cuts A4 or letter size) and I wanted the background to look as though it was creeping across the page. So I cut off the frame from the cut file and used the second cut file to fussy cut and expand the first cut file. That way the first cut file becomes larger than an A4 size and not so big as a 12 x 12.

I then went and chose a 6 x 6 paper pad that I have been holding onto and simply traced and backed each of the flowers, fussy cut and adhered to the back of the cut file. I then decided I wanted to create some height and dimension to my layout so I used the Lace Flowers cut file and created little flowers stacks. These were simply stapled together and then finished off with miniature Lace Flowers cut files and a brad to attach to the page.

I then went around all of the flowers and added the new BoBunny glitter paste to the flower edges for a little something extra.

These little flowers are so fun to create and the Lace Flower cut files add interesting "petals" to the flower stacks.

I just love that with any cut file you can customize to the size you need. Just with this project alone I have re-sized the Lace Flower cut the file 3 times to suit my needs. Totally worth the $$ if you ask me.

Thank you again Juliana for allowing me to guest, I really enjoyed it and your cut files are so versatile!

I want to thank Bernii again for being my guest here on 17turtles. I invite you to visit Bernii's blog - Weekend at Bernii's for more wonderful inspiration.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

The very talented Leanne Allinson was recently a guest on the blog and I really adored the way she took my Pie Chart Love Digital Cut File and filled it with beautiful papers on her Simple Awesome layout. Her layout inspired me to create a tutorial to share with you on how to create your own inlaid backgrounds with digital cut files.  I will warn you this is a long tutorial and the process of filling in background die cut images can be time consuming. However, I really believe that the end result is worth the effort. Especially if you love playing with pretty paper!

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create an inlaid background similar to the one created by Leanne Allison. This tutorial will help you decide what colors and/or patterns of paper to use and how to cut out all of the pieces that are from the same color or pattern.

Begin by opening the digital cut file background image with the Silhouette Software.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Open the Fill Color Palette. Do this by clicking on the small bucket image on the tool bar at the top.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Select the image and then pick the color you want to change it too. We are using the image that Leann created as a guide. Since she cut the main image from white cardstock, I choose to fill the image with white. Once you have the image selected and have clicked on the color you want it to be, it will change to that color.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Select all of the hearts and move them off to the side. Once they are off of the main cutting area, your cutting machine will not cut them. Now cut the background image from white cardstock, remove it from the cutting mat and set it to the side.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

The next step is to begin selecting what colors or patterns of paper you want to use to fill each of the openings in the pie charts. But first, select the image, right click and select Release Compound Path. This will release the inside pie shapes so that you can add color to them and cut out the individual shapes.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Once you have clicked on Release Compound Path, all of the images will turn the same color.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Now, begin selecting which shapes you want to be the same color. Use the Fill Color Palette to once again change this color to the color that you want the shape to be. By making them the same color, this will let you know which images you want to group together to cut from the same paper.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Continue selecting the different shapes and adding colors. Each of the colors will correspond to a different color of paper or even a patterned paper that you want to use.

Once you have all of the images filled with color, select the entire image filled image, create a new file and copy the image to this new file. You will use this as a reference for filling the image later after you have finished all of the cutting. ***It might even be a good idea to save this image just to be on the safe side.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Next, return to the hearts that you had moved off of the mat. Selected all of them and give them a color.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

With all of the hearts selected, drag them back onto the mat to see how they look with the rest of your design. Make any adjustments to the colors that you want at this time.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Now select the hearts again, move them off of the mat and group them together to make it easier for cutting. You will save paper by placing the images close together that you will cut from the same paper.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

The next step is to begin selecting all of the shapes with the same color and move them off to the side of the cutting area.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Continue to group the same colors together. Keep the images like the ones that I have circled together. This way if you cut them from paper with a pattern it will all match.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Repeat this entire process with each of the colors until they have all been removed from the cutting area. You will then be left with the background image. Select this image and delete it because you no longer need it.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

The final step is to select the group of same colors and place the group onto the cutting area. Adhere the paper you are going to use with that group to your cutting mat and cut out the shapes. After you have finished cutting that group, remove the group from the cutting area and repeat with another group. Continue this process until all of your shapes are cut out.

Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial by Juliana Michaels

Once you have cut out all of the colors/patterns, use the image that you copied and saved to help you put the "puzzle" back together. It will take some time to do this, but be patient. The finished project will be worth the effort!

I hope you enjoyed this Inlaid Backgrounds with Digital Cut Files Tutorial and that you will find it helpful for creating your own unique and beautiful backgrounds with pretty paper. It's also a great way to use up scrap papers.

If you are looking for more backgrounds that will work with this technique, you can visit the 17turtles Etsy Shop.
