17turtles Guest Designer | Samantha Taylor - Puppy Treat Box

Hello and welcome! Today, I'm excited to share with you you another guest designer who seriously amazed me with how she used some of my 17turtles Digital Cut Files. The ability to take the same thing and use it in multiple ways to delight and inspire other people is what makes art and creating fun! Without further ado, here is Samantha Taylor with a "paws"itively inspiring Puppy Treat Box project!

Hi! This is Samantha from Taylor Stamped. I'm so excited to be playing with Juliana's 17turtles Digital Cut Files today. They are just so fun and versatile. I have a confession to make. I hate wrapping gifts. Hate it. So, I rely heavily on gift boxes and bags. I used Puppy Love and Paw Prints & Hearts Files to customize a puppy treat box.

I started by using Puppy Love to cut a peek-a-boo window into the box. That dog bone was just too cute not to use on a treat box.

To decorate the box, I scaled the Paw Prints & Hearts Background to fit on the side of the box. I cut one for the 3 sides of the box that didn't have a window cut into them. I attached the them to the sides of the box, and filled in a few of the hearts with gray hearts. Then all I had to do was fill the box with some yummy puppy treats. This makes a great gift for someone who just got a new dog, or just has a puppy you want to spoil!

At the beginning of this post, I mentioned I love Juliana's designs because they're so versatile.  To demonstrate that, I have a second project over on my blog today featuring the exact same cut files, but since I'm using them on a layout, the result is completely different.

Christmas Cards with BoBunny Candy Cane Lane

Did you know that there are only 89 days left until Christmas? That means that you have less than 3 months to get everything ready for this special holiday, including making your Christmas cards. I love making Christmas cards for my family and friends. We don't do a lot of gifts any more, so this is something that I can make and "give" them that adds a touch of love and joy to the holiday season. Today, I'm sharing two Christmas cards that I created using the new BoBunny Candy Cane Lane collection. This might seriously be my most favorite Christmas collection ever! The colors are absolutely fabulous - slightly non-traditional but still full of merry and bright! It also has a nice vintage/retro feel with some of the art work - especially the adorable Santies!

The images on these 2 cards are cut from the Candy Cane Lane Snowflake paper.

I then layered the cut outs with papers from the Candy Cane Lane 6x6 Paper Pad. For the Merry and Bright card featuring Frostie, I embellished it with a sticker sentiment, jewels and a button from the collection.

On the Wishes Christmas Card, featuring Santie, I added some doilies and sticker sentiments. I also used the BoBunny Stitches Stamp to added a "stitched" border to the card front to mimic the stitching on the cut out.

Have you started making your Christmas cards yet? Hopefully these cards will give you some ideas and inspire you to get started if you haven't!

17turtles Guest Designer | Kristine Davidson

The 17turtles Etsy Shop is open for business and one of my goals is to provide you with regular weekly inspiration, ideas, tips, techniques and tutorials on using my digital cut files. Today, I am thrilled to share some amazing inspiration from the talented Kristine Davidson. She is the founder and coordinator of the popular Creative Scrappers sketch blog and the author of Creating with Sketches Volume 1 and Volume 2. Her latest sketch book Creating with Sketches Volume 3 with be available this October and is currently available for preorder.

Now, without further ado, here is the amazing layout Kristine created.  I'm sure you'll find that it will inspire you!

I'm so excited to be a guest for Juliana today! I'm so proud of her for starting her own little cut file business. Her digital files are amazing, unique and so inspirational! I loved her Roses Cut Files and knew I had to use them somehow, I also loved her Hand Drawn Circles (FREEBIES). All of Juliana's files are so versatile and easy to use for backgrounds or small shapes.

I used the flowers as main accents to my page, and used pop dots to make them more 3 dimensional.

The Hand Drawn Circles are awesome because you can use one or all of them to create a page. I used one of them and placed it behind my photo to add a dark color to my page.

This was really so much fun and I'm looking forward to creating more layouts with Juliana's cut files!

Thanks again so very much Kristine for being a guest on 17turtles. For more inspiration and ideas, visit Kristine's blog where she is sharing another scrapbook page - A Cat's Life. It truly makes me happy to see what others create using my digital cut files.

Using the Scraps from a Digital Cut File for Another Project

You may or may not know this, but I love to save my scraps. You just never know when they might come in handy. Most recently, I saved some scraps that were the negative pieces from a digital cut file that I had cut. I liked the left over shapes (they were actually just simple circles) so I put them to the side thinking that they might come in handy for another project. I then started working on a new scrapbook page - Yay You Did It - for Elle's Studio. As I was creating and pulling in the embellishments, I remembered the left over circles. The blue circles seemed perfect for adding a touch more color and design to my layout.

The circles were left over from my Because I Love You layout, that I recently shared for Elle's Studio September Kit Reveal.

Because I Love You Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels for Elle's Studio

As you can see, the paper has a nice pattern on both sides which is why it was impossible for me to throw away the scraps!

This layout is about the 5k that I ran in July. I started running this spring to train for it and I've been able to keep up the running pretty regularly so far. It really makes me feel better and has helped me get back into a regular exercise routine again.

17turtles Guest Designer | Katrina Hunt

Today is an exciting day! I have my first 17turtles Guest Designer sharing some scrapbook layout inspiration with you using some of my new 17turtles Digital Cut Files. I was thrilled when my dear friend Katrina Hunt, from Paper, Scissors & Glue, offered to guest for me and knowing her like I do, I wasn't surprised that she wanted to use some of my new dog themed cut files! I totally adore what she created, and I'm sure it will inspire you as well! And make sure you visit her blog to see a beautiful butterfly thank you card that she created. Now, let's hear what Katrina had to share about her layout and the cut files.

Bone Sweet Bone Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I was so excited that Juliana asked me to Guest Design for her using some of her new 17turtles Digital Cut Files. I knew I had to use the dog themed "Puppy Love" file for a layout and the "Bone Sweet Bone" cut for my title!

Bone Sweet Bone Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

Because of the color of the papers and the way I used them, I created an offset for my title to make it stand out more. It's a  great thing to do, if you want a little more "umph" to a cut file.

Bone Sweet Bone Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 17turtles Digital Cut Files

I used the bone frame as a place for Jetson's name. I just tucked it over my paper, like a bookmark! And those circles are from the "Circles Within Circles" file and yeah, I LOVE them! I cut them under 1.5 inches. They cut wonderfully, and I even had a somewhat old mat and blade!

Thanks Juliana for letting me play along!

Quick & Easy Feminine Birthday Cards

If you are looking for some inspiration on creating a couple of quick and easy feminine birthday cards, then you are in the right place. Today, I'm sharing two cards that I created using product from 3 Birds Design. These cards came together in a flash using their new For All Seasons Themed Cards, their new Pearlescent & Foil Goodie Box, a sticker and some paper scraps.

Quick and easy feminine birthday cards by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds Design

Both cards are created on a standard A2 size white cardstock base. I then cut and trimmed the scrap papers and cards to fit the card front. The pink glitter paper from the Midday Medley Paper Collection is one of my all time favorite glitter papers. It cuts and punches like butter! And I love the bling it adds to my projects!

For this card, I trimmed a piece of the glitter paper to mat one of the For All Seasons Themed Cards. I then added a sticker from the Midday Medley 3D Embellishment Kit. Next, I punched the butterfly from the glitter paper, adhered it with some double sided foam tape and then glued three pink pearls to the center of it.

For my second card, I again matted one of the For All Seasons Themed Cards with the pink glitter paper. This time I added a couple more pieces of scrap paper to the card base. I then punched out a small pink glitter butterfly and adorned it with a pink jewel.

Making the Most of Your Digital Die Cuts | A Silhouette Cameo Quick Tip

I don't know about you, but I hate to waste my pretty patterned paper. When I was originally creating this Halloween layout, I started with the plan to only use one spider web and place it behind all of my photos. Once I had cut it out though, I realized it was too small for me to use this way. You just couldn't see it. What's a scrapper to do? I was not going to throw what I had already cut away!

Making the Most of Your Digital Die Cuts

The solution I came up with was to cut out another spider web. Fortunately, I had an extra sheet of the same paper, However, if I hadn't, I probably would have done the same thing but used a sheet of black cardstock. I then placed the spider webs so that they were in the corners and hanging off the edge of the layout. I then trimmed the excess and used it in another corner. I had solved my problem . I would now see the spider webs and I had not wasted my die cut.

The spider web that I used is part to create my layout is part of my new Spooky Spider, Bats & Cats Digital Cut File that you can find in my 17turtles Etsy Shop.

Creating Cards with a 6x6 Paper Pad, Paper Scraps and a Digital Cut File | Tutorial

When I create cards, I rarely create just one. I have a thing for scraps and I love to use them to create a second card. How about you? Do what do you use scraps for?

Creating Cards With a 6x6 Paper Pad, Paper Scraps and a Digital Cut File

Today, I'm sharing a quick tutorial on how I created two cards using 2 sheets of paper from a 6x6 paper pad, paper scraps and a digital cut file. The patterned paper is from the new BoBunny Madeleine collection. Isn't it just gorgeous?

Creating Cards With Paper Scraps & A Digital Cut File by Juliana Michaels featuring BoBunny Madeleine

I used my Happy Circles Card Digital Cut File to cut out the image from a piece of 6x6 paper. This cut file is sized to be cut at 3.75 x 5" so that it will fit nicely centered on a standard A2 size card (4.25 x 5.5").

You can DOWNLOAD it for FREE - HAPPY CIRCLES CARD

I placed the paper on my cutting mat in the upper right hand corner of the mat. I then positioned the cut file image to cut in the middle of the paper. This allowed me to easily trim the scraps to create my second card.

Here is a look at my first card using the cut file. I centered the cut image in the middle of the A2 size card.

The butterflies are punched from the scrap cardstock and then misted with BoBunny Gold Glimmer Spray. The border is punched from the second sheet of 6x6 paper.

After I finished my first card, I used the scraps to create my second card. I again punched butterflies from scrap cardstock and added another punched border strip to the edge of the card.

Elle's Studio September Reveal

I hope your September is off to a great start! I really can't believe September is already here and that it's time again for Elle's Studio September Exclusive Kit and DT Gallery Reveal.

The layout that I'm sharing today is near and dear to my heart. It is one of my favorite photos of my sweet Milo, who I miss so very much. I used the Elle's Studio Shine collection papers along with the new September Exclusive Kit, September Cut Files, My Favorites Stamp Set, and Miscellaneous Cork Bits. Pretty much all of the elements I used on this layout are some of my favorite new Elle's Studio products.

17turtles New Digital Cut Files | Everyday Collection

I've added loads of new digital cut files to my 17turtles Etsy Shop and I'm so happy to be able to share a few of them with you here today! This is a set of four digital cut files that are part of my Everyday Collection and they were designed to be used for a variety of projects including scrapbooking, Project Life or pocket scrapbooking, card making and even day planners. They are now available in my 17turtles Etsy Shop!

Using Layered Cut Files | A Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

Thankful Pumpkins Digital Cut File Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Happy Monday all! I hope you had a great weekend. Fall is coming. At least that is what the calendar says. However, the temperature outside right now says it's still summer. Either way, I thought it would be fun to share a quick tutorial with you about how to use one of my layered digital cut files called Thankful Pumpkins, available in my 17turtles Etsy Shop. These fun layered pumpkins should certainly help get you in the mood for cooler weather, pumpkin spice latte's and falling leaves.

USING LAYERED CUT FILES

When you first open Thankful Pumpkins Digital Cut File in your Silhouette software this is the image you will see. This file contains 3 titles and 3 layered pumpkins with stems and vines.

Layered Digital Cut Files Tutorial by Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Select the titles and move them off of the main cutting mat area. Did you know that if you move something off of the central cutting mat, that your machine will not cut it?

Layered Digital Cut Files Tutorial by Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Select the stems and vines and move them out of the way as well.

Layered Digital Cut Files Tutorial by Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Now begin separating the layers of each pumpkin. You will see that each of the pumpkins has four layers that can be separated and cut from different colors and patterns.

Layered Digital Cut Files Tutorial by Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Once all of the layers are separated, you can then select which pieces you want to cut from whatever colors and patterns you choose. Group the pieces together that you want to cut from the same thing and keep them on your mat to cut.

WELDING LAYERED CUT FILES

Another option for you, if you don't want to do layers, is to Weld them. There are 2 ways to do this. One is to use your mouse to select all of the layers for that pumpkin.

Welding Layered Digital Cut Files Tutorial by Juliana Michaels 17turtles

Right click on the image with your mouse and select Weld from the list of options.

The second option is to remove the top 3 layers and move them out of the way.

Select both the stem and the bottom layer with your mouse. Then right click and select Weld.

Repeat the welding process with all 3 pumpkins using whichever method you prefer.

BACKGROUNDS

One final use that I want to share is how to create die cut backgrounds. I also shared this same technique last week on my Four Ways to Use Leaves & Acorn Digital Cut File Tutorial. Begin by positioning all of the welded images in a group. Select all of the images and resize them as a group to a smaller size. Right click with your mouse and select Copy and then Paste.

Move this copied image into a different location on the mat. Repeat until the mat is filled and then rotate and move the images around until you like the placement of them.

So there you have it. Some fun new ways to use a layered digital cut file. Does this make you stop and look at your digital cut files a little differently now? I sure hope it inspires you to play with them and use them more too.  And don't forget to visit the 17turtles Etsy Shop to check out my latest new cut files.
