Staple It Together | A Tutorial with Crate Paper Plastic Alphas

Hello and welcome everyone! Have you seen Paper Bakery's July Boardwalk kits? I have had so much fun creating with them! The nautical theme of this month's kit was perfect for our recent move to live near Lake Erie and I used it to scrap a photo of me during one our first trips to the beach. It was still a little cold out that day, which is why I have on my winter coat! Scrapping this photo really shows the versatility of this kit.

I used my Nautical By Nature digital cutting file to create a fun journaling spot for my layout. You can download this free digital cutting file on my blog or from Paper Bakery's blog.  I also used some cuts from Paper Bakery's July cut file as well! In this detail shot you can see a peek of the Crate Paper Clear Alphas that I used for my title. Keep reading for a fun little tutorial that I created to share with you on how I attached these letters to my layout using a stapler!

This little cluster of goodness was fun to create using a mix of the Studio Calico Atlantic Brads, Wood Veneer and Vellum Die Cuts.

TRENDS | Nautical and Wood
Nautical, nautical, nautical! Need I say more! The nautical look is everywhere right now and I am loving it! Especially the combination of orange and navy in Studio Calico's Atlantic collection. I have always loved orange and now I am loving navy too!
Another big trend is wood, and Studio Calico has been doing it well with all of their fabulous wood veneers sets. The fun stained pieces that are part of the Atlantic collection provide a darker alternative to the sets they have been releasing and I find the darker color a fresh new option.

TUTORIAL | Stapler + Crate Paper Clear Alphas
I want to share with you a technique that I came up with using a stapler and the Crate Paper Clear Alphas. This technique came from the fact that I did not have a stapler strong enough to go through the two layers of plastic and I wanted to staple them together! If you have a more industrial type stapler you should be able to staple through these letters with no problem.

1. Begin by selecting the letters you want to use. The letters have a plastic covering on the front side that you will want to remove before adding them to your layout.  Place the letters so that they slightly overlap each other.

2.  Remove some staples from your stapler and hold them on the letter like this.

3. Use a craft pick and poke holes in the plastic letters using the stapler as a guide for where to poke the holes.

4.  Take one of the staples and put it through the poked holes. Add the next letter and fold the staple together to hold the letters together.  Repeat this on each letter.

You can also poke holes through your layout to use this same technique to attach the letters to your layout.
