Until then, I will share this latest layout with you. I have really been getting into templates, misting and gesso as you saw in my gesso & butterflies post below. For this layout I used a template from Studio Calico. It is a thinner template, so the gesso kind of spread underneath the template in places. It was probably more because of how I applied it...too thick maybe?! Anyway, I still like how it turned out. I started with a piece of white cardstock and added the gesso. I let this dry overnight and then played with it the next day adding color with some Distress Stains and Glimmer Mist.

On these next 2 images you can see how the gesso spread under the template. I think it still looks OK though. If you have any suggestions on how to avoid this next time, it would be greatly appreciated!

And how about using those little strips on the end of the paper. I love those things!!! And I am in LOVE with The Sweetest Thing collection by My Minds Eye! This past weekend I was able to buy more of it!!!

ReplyDeleteHere are a couple ideas for you. Molding past is thicker and doesn't spread out as much, so you could try that. Also, if I want a real clean image, I spray the back of the stencil/mask with temporary adhesive - be sure to let it dry before using, so the adhesive doesn't transfer to your page. Press down firmly, then you can use gesso, molding paste, ink, paint . . . without much if any going under the stencil. I do remove it carefully while the medium is stlll wet for an easier stencil clean up.
Of course if it turns out like this, a clean image is overrated!! :-) ~ Blessings, Tracey

ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I like the look of the gesso coming out of the stencil. I can't offer any suggestions because I just bought some and haven't tried it yet. I just love how you took a plain piece of cardstock and ended up with that design. WOW!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty Juliana!! I love the way your Gesso turned out and the distress stain and glimmer mist makes the page!! I have been using the Modeling Paste, which is thicker than Gesso and a little easier to control. Kim Watson did a tutorial on this technique for CK and I have been following her instructions. I am using an old Driver's License and adding the paste to the edge of it and then I spread it across my mask. It seems to work really well.

gesso is a bit runny & this has happen to me So... I started to use modeling paste instead!!
Big, huge bottle of Gesso sitting on my desk. I did get modeling paste recently at Hobby Lobby and I want to try it out. Love your layout!
ReplyDeleteSweet layout Juliana! I don't mind messy with mixed media but if you want to keep it real neat then I suggest you use something thicker than gesso as it can be a bit runny. Acrylic paint or better still Reeves Modeling paste is great as it stays where it is put. Don't put on too much and use a small palette knife to smooth. Don't beat yourself up about it! Those SC masks are very thin which can make things tricky! They work great for mists though!!
