Self control...

A question posted the other day at CMK with regards to CHA got me thinking...
If you could only choose ONE collection what would it be?

This is so difficult to answer with just ONE collection. My first reaction was to just list off all the fun things I have seen and think I just "have to have", but then I stopped to really think about the question.
What if I could really only have ONE collection?
What would it be?
The fact that I seriously pondered this question probably says something about how "sick" I am when it comes to scrapping, but aren't we all??? LOL!!!!
Anyway, I put some serious thought into this and was really unable to come up with just ONE collection that could do everything, but I was able to come up with ONE manufacturer!
PINK PAISLEE!
All 4 of their new lines would allow me to scrap my "to do" list of photos at this very moment.
Fascinating, Fetching and Captivating are my faves, but I may also want Enchanting for photos of my nieces!

OK, so I picked ONE thing. But reality still exists, and I still want more than just ONE thing, so the rest of my list consists of:
Scenic Route
Sassafrass Lass
October Afternoon
Narratives (totally perfect for my wedding photos!!!)
and Prima.

However, I really only want pieces from each of these at this point in time!
If I could even just stick to this list, I would be doing pretty well I think!

So what about you...what ONE collection or manufacturer would you choose if you could only pick ONE?

Now some scrappy goodness to share!
My second hybrid LO created using the new kit by Amy Teets called All Mine! You can find it here: ACOT.
I printed out the papers and created my own layered flowers with punches.
I also manipulated the color of the brown journaling spot in the kit and made it pink!
Here's what I created!
Embrace
(Supplies: Digital Kit: Amy Teets Designs All Mine; Chipboard: Magistical Memories Potty People; Chipboard Alpha: Making Memories;Velvet Leaves: Prima; Sticker: Prima; Punches: EK Success and Stampin’ Up!; Alcohol Inks: Ranger)

I hope you all have a scrappy good week!

And don't forget to share with me what ONE collection or manufacturer you would choose!

Smiles!!!

Fast or just crazy insane...

It began as a whim. My thoughts went something like this...
Everyone else is reading it and saying how great it is, so I'll give it a try.
I am trying to read more and this sounds like something I might enjoy. I loved the Anne Rice Vampire series anyway.
And that is how it all began...my love affair with Edward!!!!

Since we are all about pinching pennies right now we have been getting books to read from the library. So we put my name on the waiting list for Twilight. I waited patiently for them to let me know it was available. From the moment I opened the book I knew I was hooked! I was immediately drawn in to the story of Bella and Edward!
I finished Twilight quickly in December. Very quickly. I think it took me about a week to read it. I knew right away I wanted to read the next one, so I once again put my name on the waiting list and tried to be patient. But man, it is so hard to be patient when all you want to do is find out what is going to happen next!!!
Well, last Friday the library contacted me to let me know that #2 was in and so Danny went and picked up "New Moon" for me.
I started it on Saturday.
I finished it last night! (Wednesday)
I have never in my life read a book that quickly!!! 5 days!!!
That is just craziness!!! I am still in shock that I did this, but I am loving that I am in love with reading again!
Now I just have to be patient and wait for #3!!!!

Now for some scrappy business.
Just a reminder that Magistical Memories is having a contest this month called "Rhyme Time"!
All you have to do is create a LO with a title that rhymes and use at least 1 piece of chipboard!
That's all!
Post your LO here by January 31st and you could become the lucky winner of some awesome chipboard from Magistical Memories!
I decided to play along just for the fun of it and here is what I created.

Sweet Treat
(Supplies: Paper: Sassafrass Lass; Letter Stickers: Sassafrass Lass (large) and Rose Moka (small);Word Sticker: Scenic Route; Chipboard: Magistical Memories (Atomic); Paint & Alcohol Inks: Ranger; Buttons: unknown)

I will admit that I had some fun with crackle paint and alcohol inks! Both of these are firsts for me with this LO!
  • I painted the chipboard with the crackle paint to give it a bit of a distressed look.
  • I punched circles out of a transparency and added dots of ginger alcohol ink and gold mixative to them. No blending, just dotting. I would occasionally let the ink dry a bit before adding the gold. I then placed these circles in the large circle openings of the chipboard.
  • I also tore a small strip of paper of each of the sides of the yellow paper, distressed the edges, turned them over and placed them around the yellow to frame them. The secret to the space between them is a transparency. I adhered it to the back of the yellow paper and then adhere the strips.
The details that are a little easier to see in these detail shots...

Just a reminder that Mix It Up posted another amazing challenge on Wednesday!
Stop by and check it out and don't forget that if you play along this month you could win some awesome stuff from Daisy Bucket Designs!!!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all have a great weekend!

On this day in history...

There was such a sense of excitement in the air to me knowing that history was being made today.
I really wanted to be able to watch as Obama became our next President, however I wasn't able to because I was at work. It was such a thrill for me to finally be able to see it for myself later today.
Brief as my thoughts below are about this momentous occasion, I think I have hit the main points. I am one of few words anyway, and I have found that in trying to express my true feelings about this day words once again fail to flow freely.
Regardless here are my thoughts...
I am so very proud that we have our first African American President.
I was raised to believe that race was never an issue and that we are all created equal.
We can all have dreams.
We can all strive to achieve them.
We as Americans still have a dream that we can achieve.
I believe we are achieving it!
I am excited about our future...the future of America!
I believe our President has the ability to make the changes this country so desperately needs.
I am excited to see how it unfolds. To see America become a place to be proud of once again!
I know many are suspect of his promises, after all he is a politician, but I have faith that he is the change we need right now.
I pray that God will bless and guide him as he leads our country these next 4 years.
God bless America!

Mixer #2

The next challenge is up at Mix It Up!
This week’s mixer is an art inspiration challenge. And once again Day has provided a wonderful sketch to kick start your creativity. Stop by and check out all the details and what the rest of the DT has created. Here's what I was inspired to create:
Just Married
(Supplies: Paper, Stickers: SEI; Felt flowers: Maya Road; Pearls: Glitz Designs; Die cut swirl: Quickutz Silhouette; Flower punch: EK Success.)

And don't forget that everyone who plays along with the January Mixers will be entered to win a prize from Daisy Bucket!!!

Hope you all play along!!! And feel free to let me know here too if you do! I love to leave some love!!!

Brussel Sprouts

These are one of those love/hate kind of foods for most people. I personally love them!
My Mom served them at our family Christmas dinner and DH & I fixed them for dinner this past Saturday night. I know...I should have taken a photo! Photos always make me much more willing to try a recipe!!!
Anyways, if you love Brussel sprouts, I highly recommend giving this recipe a try.
It's totally yummalicious!!!

Brussel Sprouts with Parmesan Cheese2.5 pounds Brussel sprouts
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
6 large garlic cloves, minced
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
Coarsely ground black pepper
3/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese

1. Trim stem ends of Brussel sprouts. Using the slicing blade of a food processor, process sprouts into thin slices, then separate them with your fingers. (I don't have one of these fancy things, so I just sliced them thinly by hand.)
2. Melt butter and olive oil in a large skillet. Add garlic; saute 2 minutes. Add Brussel sprouts; saute until bright green and crisp-tender, about 3 minutes. Increase heat to high; add broth. Cover and cook about 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper. Place in a serving bowl; top with Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately. Serves 10.

Now to share some scrappy stuff...
First a LO for Magistical Memories using the May Apple Blossom. I put an edge around the outside edge of the sheer to give the LO a frame. All the cardstock edges have been distressed using my handy dandy x-acto knife! The journaling was given dimension with double sided foam tape.

Someday
(Supplies- Sheer:KI Memories, Cardstock: Bazzill; Chipboard: Magistical Memories; Letter Stickers: American Crafts. Punches: Stampin' Up!; Trim: unknown.) The next project I want to share is a hybrid LO I created using digital scrapbooking products by Amy Teets Designs. I used Tuscany Villa papers and elements and a flower element from Charade to create this LO.
Botanical Garden
(Supplies: Yellow Patterned Paper, Number border, Off white flowers, Cardboard trim. Cards: Amy Teets Designs; Lace: Melissa Frances; Velvet leaves: Prima; Paper Flowers: Bazzill; Rhinestones: Kaiser; Letter Stickers: Rose Moka; Punch: Stampin' Up!; Other: Cardboard; Ink: Stampin' Up! and Colorbox. )

Instructions: I printed the yellow patterned paper onto textured white cardstock and then tore the edges to "match" the digital paper shape and distressed it with my x-acto knife and ink. I printed the cardboard trim onto matte photo paper, glued it onto chipboard and cut it out. I printed the Number border onto a transparency. I printed the Cards onto matte photo paper, cut them out and inked the edges. I printed out the Off white flowers and then punched them out into the shapes I wanted.
And last but not least, one I created just for me!!! I had a lot of fun with this one playing with the Pink Paislee Sweet Cakes line and making the yo-yo's! The yo-yo's are made from the same fabric as her dress. (My Mom made the dress!)
3
(Supplies: Patterned Paper & Number Sticker: Pink Paislee; Bling: Prima; Fabric Butterfly: Colorbok; Other: Buttons.)
Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a great week!!!

Inspired by...

Leigh
This LO speaks to me.
And I want to create my own LO about my faith...what I believe. Thanks for the inspiration!

CMK has selected 3 talented ladies to add to their Winter/Spring 2009 DT!
Congrats to Leigh, Charity and Sherry!
I am looking forward to your creative inspiration!

I have 2 scrappy related goodies that I can't share with any one yet. But it is really killing me to hold it in!!! But I have to. I have no choice. I will share as soon as I am allowed too!

Now on to what I really wanted to blog about...2008-2009.
I found an old LO from 2006 that reminded me of a great journaling idea. Something I should record every year. So here goes:

In 2009 I intend to...
keep enjoying scrapbooking and keep doing it for me.
work out more regular.
take more photos & document more about my daily life.
continue to be open to God's plan for me and Danny.
continue to grow in my love for Danny.
continue to learn how to monitor my words and actions for the benefit of those around me.
make more friends.
use my time more wisely.

In 2008 I learned...
how to scrapbook for me.
how to work with neuro patients and do rehab.
that having a PT student isn't so bad.
that moving to Cape was the best decision Danny and I could have made for both of us in so many ways.
that I really do miss doing cardiopulmonary therapy.

I am grateful for...
Danny
my family...both mine and Danny's
Emma & Ava
God's love
my job and co-workers
my health
our new home
my friends

I am feeling a bit sappy now!!!

I hope you all have a great rest of your week. Thanks again for playing along with my little contest this week!

I won't be back for a few days. Tomorrow my scrappy pal Ms. Rachel is coming over for a scrappy sleepover!!! With lots of Dr. Pepper and M&M's involved!!! I can't wait!!!

Until next time...HUGS!!!

and the winner is...

Yeah!!!
I have a winner!!!
Finally!!!
And
it
is...
crazy4scrappin (Alison)
Congrats!!!You are the winner of the BG chipboard album and some other goodies!
Send me your addy when you get a chance!!!!

She was the first to guess the correct number...154.
(Believe me, I wish I had enough goodies to give out a prize to everyone who finally guessed the correct number.)
After reading some of your all's comments, I realize 154 really isn't really too bad!!!

I want to thank all of you who played along! This has been so much fun!
I actually really love to give gifts! It makes me happy!!!
So I will probably be doing this again sometime down the road!!!

Thank you all!!!

Potty People

I just love these potty people by Magistical Memories!
Here is my first project for this month.
Hugs & Kisses
(Supplies: Patterned Paper: Teresa Collins, GCD Studios (green).
Felt: Prima.
Chipboard: Magistical Memories Potty People .
Other: Binding tape, brads, glitter.)

I will have 2 more to share very soon! I also wanted to share the details of our January contest.
Here are the details...
Rhyme time is the theme for January's contest. Create a project using at least one piece of chipboard and your title needs to rhyme. It can be as long (or as short) as you want it to be, but it must rhyme. Upload into the contest gallery at www.magisticalmemories.com for a chance to win some awesome chipboard goodies. The contest will run from January 1 through January 31. I hope you can play along!!

And as for the guessing game I posted for the number of LO's I have that aren't in albums (see post below)...no one has guessed the correct number yet!!! ;)

And to entice you a bit more...the RAK I will be sending someone is this:
Basic Grey Eclectic Dark Chocolate Chipboard album! How yummy is that?

Accomplishments...

On January 1 we (meaning DH) installed our new dishwasher. Doesn't it look awesome?
I am so excited to not have to hand wash ALL of our dishes anymore! Thank goodness for Sears and 0% financing for 12 months!!!
I know I said I don't set new year's resolutions, but I have already accomplished a couple things that I had secretly hoped to start or to complete sometime soon this year.
One being to take some photos of my Christmas decorations. We had 3 trees this year! And I loved it! I have collected an ornament every year since I was born. That, along with crafting ornaments every year, has provided me with more than I could possible hang on 1 tree. In my next post I will share about the ornament we choose for this year. You also get a peek of my Santie collection in the last photo! I plan to do a LO soon about both of these topics very soon!
Today we accomplished hanging some of our art on the walls of our home. It took us almost 2.5 years to do this in St. Louis. I did not want to wait that long again to make our home feel more personal and cozy. I also want to get some photos of us and our families up on the walls too. I'm just not sure how I want to go about doing this yet.
Today I began one of my most dreaded projects. Putting my LO's in albums. I have been neglecting to do this for 2 years! Yes you read it right...2 years!!! Here they are divided into 2007 and 2008.
Any guesses on how many total? It's ridiculous! I can't believe I have been sooooo lazy! And for 2 years!!! Now I have to get them in order and then begin the process of putting them in page protectors. Ugh! I am so not looking forward to this!
If any of you are able to guess EXACTLY how many LO's are in both of these piles I will send you a little RAK!
Oh and I also wanted to tell you to stop by and check out the Mix It Up challenge blog!
Our first challenge was to use this color palette and this sketch as our inspiration.
Here's my take on it:(Supplies: Patterned paper: Scenic Route, GCD Studios. Transparency: Hambly Studios. Lace Cardstock: KI Memories. Stamp: Lil Davis. Flowers: Maya Road. Letter Stickers: Doodlebug and Making Memories. Cardstock: Bazzill. Punch: Martha Stewart. Ink Stampin' Up!)

Hope you all have a great week!

2009

What does this new year hold for me?
This question certainly keeps going through my mind!
I am excited about the new things already in progress on the scrappy side of my life!
Being part of a manufacturer DT...Magisitical Memories!
Being a DT member for what is shaping up to be a super awesome challenge blog...Mix It Up!
Being a DT member for my first ever digital designer...Amy Teets Designs!
And teaching my first scrapbook class in about 2 years at my LSS later this month!

But I really keep wondering about other things...babies!
Will this be the year that we are blessed with the joy of a new baby or the year we determine it is not meant to be?
Either way, I know it is all part of God's plan for me!

New year's resolutions? Do you have them?
I usually don't have anything specific, and this year is no different I guess.
I am still soul searching for a word to use as my word for this year.
Wait...I think I just decided...CREATE.
It fits me in so many ways this year.
CREATE ART
CREATE LIFE?
CREATE LOVE
CREATE FUN
CREATE HAPPINESS
And I love the saying "Do something creative everyday!"
It reminds me to focus on doing and looking at things in a new light. Things that are somethings thought of as boring or repetitive. Look for the bright side!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I wish all of you a year full of happiness and joy!!!
